New Yorker – On About Town: Art
Judith Bernstein Who does Judith Bernstein think she is? This show consists of her signature scrawled in appallingly large script on the curving walls of this posh town-house gallery, accompanied by a projection of “The Horse’s Mouth,” a 1958 movie in which Alec Guinness plays an aging artist who trashes a wealthy patron’s home while painting a mural. Basically, Bernstein doesn’t give a hoot what anyone thinks. The big question raised in this brilliant sendup of artistic ego and the market that supports it is “When can we see more of her work?” Through Jan. 15.
