- Nicolas Poussin: A Dance to the Music of Time; Philip Larkin: Aubade.
- Francis Bacon: Figure Writing Reflected in Mirror, 1976. Francis Bacon’s ferociously distorted “Figure writing Reflected in a Mirror” (1976) and Roy Lichtenstein’s pretty, though vacant, “Sleeping Girl” (1964). Both paintings sold to separate telephone bidders for $44,882,500, exceeding identical pre-sale expectation of $30-40 million. Though wildly different in subject matter and taste, the two performed like identical twins, with bidding opening at $22 million, attracting at least five bidders and quickly ticking skyward at one million dollar increments until $37 million when it dropped to $500,000 jumps.

- Liz Cohen: Trabantimino. What do you get when you cross a Trabant, the “people’s car” of East Germany, with an all-American Chevrolet El Camino? The “Trabantimino,” a clunkily seductive, East-meets-West vehicle conceived and engineered by the Detroit-based artist Liz Cohen. This peculiar lowrider, with the Trabant’s sickly beige hue and the El Camino’s sleek frame, makes a snazzy showroom of Salon 94’s renovated Bowery gallery. The work took longer than she thought — eight years in all, during which time she photographed herself as a bikini-wearing car-show model. Liz Cohen is one of the hottest young artists to emerge on the contemporary art scene in the past year.

- Abri Castanet is a collapsed rockshelter with rich and important Upper Paleolithic occupations, located in the Vallon des Roches, Castelmerle in Dordogne, southwestern France. The roof block is flat, and engraved with vulvar images, similar to those recovered by Peyrony
